Veritas Forum: Grace in Immigration

“How can we mend a broken world? How should we seek justice? What is the good life?”

Students and faculty on universities are asking life’s hardest questions. We want to help them confront these questions courageously. We trusted the Lord and put on a Veritas Forum at UC Irvine. This forum was founded at Harvard University in 1922. Veritas is the Latin word for Truth.

On May 4, we partnered with Intervarsity, Navigators, and the UCI Dreamer’s Club (represents undocumented students) to put on a Veritas Forum to engage in conversations on the important subject of immigration. Robert Romero, UCLA Professor of Chicano Studies and History, came to share his perspective on grace in immigration. Many students expressed conflicting beliefs on this topic, but it opened a door for healthy conversations and the gospel was shared through the discussion.

One of our freshmen students, named Daniela, brought five friends from her dorm who participated in the conversations about faith, activism, and immigration at the Veritas Forum. Daniela has a heart to reach her friends and other Latino students with the gospel.

We desire to place Christian faith in dialogue with other beliefs and topics. We want to invite students from all different backgrounds to pursue Truth together. This event opened doors for us to partner with the Cross Cultural Center at UC Irvine in the future. We are praying the Lord will continue to open doors for crossing cultures and sharing the love of Jesus with others. Our heart is to reach diverse campuses to reach a diverse world with the gospel.

As the year winds down, we continue to see God’s faithfulness in working in the lives of students in Orange County. Thank you for your care and partnership with us in ministry!

Pray:

  • Praise God for a great turn out at the Veritas Forum! Praise God for students going to the world on summer missions! Praise God for sustaining us in ministry!
  • Pray for three of our seniors who are trusting the Lord to serve in the Middle East with Cru after they graduate.
  • Pray for JJ, Naomi, and I as we prepare to go to Colorado for the summer. JJ will be in training for his new role as Director of Operations and I will be taking theology classes.
